t’s official. Hilary Duff is joining Gossip Girl for a multi-episode arc – as a new roommate for one of our favorite characters and a love interest for another!

The actress-designer-pop singer will be playing Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at New York University in search of a traditional college experience.

She will room with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) so it’s safe to say she’ll be majoring in Drama! Sorry, that was EW’s line, but it was too good not to steal.

Olivia just wants to date a normal guy. Lucky for her, Dan doesn’t know who she is and wants to hook up with her. Oooh. Get ready for some Dolivia!

Gossip Girl producers spotted an opening in the 21-year-old star’s schedule after NBC elected to pass on her comedy pilot, entitled Barely Legal.

Damn. News that Hilary Duff is coming to Gossip Girl this fall certainly caused a stir – and a mixed bag of strong reactions – when we posted it on Wednesday afternoon.

On Gossip Girl, Hilary will play a movie star (typecasting lives!) named Olivia Burke who seeks a traditional college life and ends up rooming with Vanessa at NYU.

Soon enough, she’ll emerge as a love interest for Dan (Penn Badgley). Dan’s last love interest was Rachel Carr (Laura Breckenridge), who was pretty unpopular.
